Klanghelm: IVGI

Every producer and mix engineer these days should have a varied selection of saturation processors, whether it be software or hardware. Saturation is the key to a 'full of life' mix, whilst also being a wonderful tool to glue your mix together and create headroom. But good saturation plugins don't need to cost you an arm and a leg, for example, todays featured free plugin: IVGI by Klanghelm. The IVGI is a dynamic response saturator with a simple and elegant layout. The standard Drive and Output parameters are available, with input gain at the top left labeled 'Trim'. On top of this, the Response parameter allows you to dial in which frequency area the saturation focuses on, giving you varied tones to suit the job at hand. Furthermore, the 'ASYM Mix' gives you control of the signal symmetry without disturbing the added harmonics. Equipped with an easy to use VU meter and a RMS mode (Relaxed), this plugin puts its competitors to the test as a great free option. Personally, I like using the IVGI in parallel, crushing the signal and blending it in with the dry signal. Using this on the main signal doesn't always give me the sound I want, as it can be harsh sometimes compared to my other saturation options. Overall, the IVGI is a great free plugin and I highly recommend it.
