Brainworx: bx_solo

Today's free plugin is a little different, in that it's not an effect, eq or compressor. The bx_solo by Brainworx is a simple little utility plugin that, although Brainworx and Plugin Alliance might be well known for brilliant products, might not be known too many people. So what does it do? As it's name suggests, it allows you to solo different aspects of your audio signal, along side a stereo widening knob. This is useful as it allows you to really focus in on different bits of your mix. Do you want to know exactly what a stereo widening plugin is doing to your audio? Solo the Side and listen carefully. Being able to flip left and right is also very useful to check for overall panning and making sure your mix isn't leaning towards one side. Essentially its a safety check for your mix, and for that reason it lives on my stereo bus in every single mix I do. Remember, however, that your mix decisions should always be done in context of the entire mix, so don't be tempted to leave one of the solo buttons on for too long.
